ATHENS-----Six members of the Georgia men's tennis team won opening round singles matches at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. In doubles, the Bulldogs have four of the eight teams remaining in the tournament.

No. 1 seed Sadio Doumbia, Nathan Pasha, Eric Diaz, Ignacio Taboada and Hernus Pieters all won their respective singles matches in straight sets, while Campbell Johnson outlasted his opponent in the third set. For Diaz, it was his third win in two days after winning a pair of qualifying matches on Thursday.

Georgia's six players in the singles main draw is the most of any team in the tournament.

In doubles, the Bulldog tandems of third-seeded Taboada and Pieters, fourth-seeded Doumbia and Pasha, Wil Spencer and Garrett Brasseaux, and Johnson and Will Reynolds all won two matches to reach the quarterfinals.

The singles and doubles champions of each USTA/ITA Regional earn automatic bids to the National Indoor Tournament Nov. 3-6 in New York.

"It was a fantastic day," said Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz. "As we go forward here tomorrow, it's another big day. We'll have to stay on track and understand the challenges ahead. Hopefully we'll be ready. It was a great day today, and we're looking forward to tomorrow. It's still early."

Play is scheduled to begin Saturday at 9:00 a.m. with four doubles quarterfinal matches and the first round of singles consolation. The Bulldogs will start play in the singles main draw at 11:00 a.m.
