ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia swimming and diving teams swept Georgia Tech in the season-opening dual meet on Friday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

The Bulldogs defeated Georgia Tech 152-87, while the Lady Bulldogs posted a 141-91 decision. For the Georgia women, it was their 74th consecutive dual/tri meet victory at Gabrielsen Natatorium, a streak that dates back to 1995.

"It's nice to do well," Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle said. "First meets are a little rough around the edges, so it's nice to get out of here with a win. It's also always nice to beat Tech. The neat thing today was a lot of youngsters we'll be counting on really stepped up. The kids raced hard, and that's what coaches always want. We'll keep cleaning up a few things, but all in all, it was a good start to the season."

Andrew Gemmell was a triple winner for the Bulldogs as he claimed the 1,000 freestyle in 9:12.79, the 400 individual medley in 3:58.57 and the 500 freestyle in 4:29.70.

The Bulldogs kicked off Friday's meet with the 400 medley relay team of Luke Upchurch, Nicolas Fink, Michael Arnold and Jameson Hill winning in 3:21.05. Hill won the 200 freestyle in 1:40.13. Arnold claimed the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.65. Todd McGraw touched first in the 200 butterfly, posting a 1:52.78. Jared Markham won the 200 backstroke in 1:50.37. Fink claimed the 200 breaststroke in 2:04.41. The 400 freestyle relay team of Hill, Markham, Peter Benner and John Simmons won in 3:05.99.

Kelsey Gaid won twice for the Lady Bulldogs. She took the 200 backstroke in 1:59.31 and the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.96.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the meet by winning the 400 medley relay. The team of Megan Romano, Jana Mangimelli, Courtney Peters and Jessica Graber stopped the clock in 3:46.82. Melanie Margalis claimed the 1,000 freestyle in 9:58.60. Lauren Harrington went 23.06 to win the 50 freestyle. Amber McDermott claimed first in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:19.62. Jordan Mattern placed first in the 100 freestyle in 51.04. Wendy Trott had the top time in the 500 freestyle, touching in 4:51.38. Shannon O'Malley touched first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.98.
