Five Bulldogs Headed To Georgia Tech Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. --- Five members of the Georgia men's tennis team will travel to Atlanta this weekend for the Georgia Tech Invitational Oct. 2-4 at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. Matches start at 7:50 a.m. each day.
Junior Ignacio Taboada, sophomore Will Oliver, and freshmen Hernus Pieters, Campbell Johnson, and Garrett Brasseaux will compete at Tech. Pieters is coming off his Division II singles championship last weekend at the Southern Intercollegiates in Athens, while Johnson advanced to the semifinals and Taboada and Brasseaux reached the Round of 16 in Georgia's first fall tournament of the year.
Pieters enters as the top seed in the tournament in the "A" singles, a 64-draw consisting of 37 players. He will receive a first-round bye and will meet either Bryan Salcedo (Vanderbilt) or Vincent Verpeaux (Ga. State) in the second round Saturday at 11 a.m.
Taboada is the "A" flight No. 8 seed and will take on Cal Hilsman of Clemson in second-round action Saturday at 10 a.m. Brasseaux will get an early bye and face either Louisville's Arren Carter or Armstrong Atlantic's Eudaldo Bonet in the second round Saturday at 11:30 a.m., while Johnson will meet Michael Wardell of Auburn in the first round Saturday at 8 a.m.
Oliver is the two-seed in the 32-player "B" flight and faces Jairo Seur of South Alabama in the opening round Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
Pieters and Taboada will play doubles together for the first time, entering the "A" draw as the four-seed and challenging the Louisville team Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Johnson and Brasseaux will play UAB also at 1:30 on day one.

Four other Bulldogs - Javier Garrapiz, Wil Spencer, Sadio Doumbia, and Drake Bernstein - will head to the ITA/D'Novo Men's All-American Championships next week in Tulsa, Okla.
