Georgia Ties For Seventh At Mason Rudolph

FRANKLIN, Tenn. --- The No. 8-ranked Georgia women's golf team posted a 4-over 292 to finish tied for seventh in a stellar field at the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sunday. The Bulldogs completed the 54-hole event at 2-under 862.

"We're playing pretty good golf," head coach Kelley Hester said. "I refuse to be disappointed in our play based on a seventh-place. At the same time, it continues to give us things to work on. Overall, I'm pretty pleased. We're 2-under for the year through six rounds of golf. That's pretty consistent.

"We definitely could putt better as a team," Hester added. "Some of our shot selections around the green could be better. We have a tendency to take more lofts than we need. We should just focus on getting up and down."

Sophomore Emilie Burger and freshman Amelia Hill posted a pair of late birdies en route to matching 1-under 71s for Georgia. The Bulldogs also counted Marta Silva Zamora's 74 and Milena Savich's 76, while dropping Tess Fordham's 81.

No. 2 LSU captured the team title by finishing at 21-under 843, two shots better than No. 20 Purdue. Rounding out the top-10 teams were No. 3 Southern Cal and No. 10 UCLA both at 851, No. 11 Cal at 856, No. 1 Alabama at 859, the Bulldogs and No. 12 Vanderbilt at 862, Wake Forest at 867 and No. 6 Duke and No. 22 Florida both 872.

Cal's Pia Halberg earned medalist honors at 11-under 205. She overtook first- and second-round leader Michelle Shin of Wake Forest by a single stroke.

Burger and Silva Zamora tied for 14th at 4-under 212, Hill tied for 27th at even-par 216, Savich tied for 62nd at 225 and Fordham tied for 74th at 229.

Burger's back-and-forth, 1-under front nine included bogeys at No. 1 and No. 6 along with birdies at No. 2, No. 7 and No. 8. Consecutive bogeys at No. 13 and No. 14 pushed her to 1-over before birdies at No. 16 and No. 17.

Hill was 2-over on the day after bogeys at No. 1 and No. 13 but birdied No. 14, No. 17 and No. 18 to move into red numbers.

The Bulldogs will return to action in two weeks when they travel to Chapel Hill to compete in the Tar Heel Invitational on Oct. 8-10.
