Georgia-Arkansas Series:
No. 12 Arkansas edged Georgia 31-24 for its first win in Athens in the series history and snapping a six-game losing streak to the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs were 3-0 against the Razorbacks in Athens and 5-0 under Mark Richt before today's defeat. Overall, Georgia leads the series 9-4. The Bulldogs dropped to 0-2 in the SEC for the first time since 1993 when it began league play 0-4.
King and Durham Post Big Day:
Sophomore split end Tavarres King has two career touchdown catches and both have come against Arkansas. Today, he had a 10-yarder to make it 24-17 Hogs with 7:52 left in the contest. Last year, he had a 50-yarder from Joe Cox in a 52-41 victory in Fayetteville, Ark. Overall, King posted four catches for 91 yards. Georgia's leading receiver was senior Kris Durham who had a career-high five catches for 101 yards.
Going For It:
In the first two games, Georgia did not go for it on any fourth downs. On Saturday, the Bulldogs went for it three times and were 2-for-3. Georgia was 8-for-14 (57 percent) on fourth down tries in 2009.
Murray Scampers In For Another:
Redshirt freshman QB Aaron Murray (15-for-27, 253 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) scored the second rushing TD of his career on a 1-yard run midway through the first quarter that tied the game at 7-7. Murray scored his first rushing TD in the opener versus Louisiana. Murray connected with sophomore SE Tavarres King for a 47-yard reception to set up the scoring opportunity.
Walsh Hits 100+:
Junior PK Blair Walsh drilled a PAT after Georgia's first touchdown, and it marked his 100th straight in his career. He added two more PATs in the fourth quarter. Walsh also hit a 43-yard field goal at the 2:44 mark in the third quarter. He is 5-for-5 on the year, 2-for-2 from 40 to 49 yards this season and 12-for-13 from that distance in his career.
Turnovers:
Redshirt freshman Aaron Murray threw an INT on the first play of the second half, but the Razorbacks were unable to turn it into points. Georgia has forced four turnovers and converted them into 14 points while its opponents have scored 7 points off three Bulldog miscues on the year.
Penalties Stack Up:
Georgia had nine penalties for 55 yards coming into today's game and was tied for ninth in the nation (27.5 yds./game). The Bulldogs committed nine fouls for 53 yards against the Razorbacks.
In Honor Of 'Q':
Senior CB Vance Cuff wore #31, rather than his regular #25, in honor of senior safety Quintin Banks. Banks was forced to retire this preseason because of re-occurring knee injuries. He is now a student coach. A different Bulldog will wear #31 each game this season.
Bulldog Captains:
Senior OT Josh Davis, junior C Ben Jones, senior DE DeMarcus Dobbs and junior PK Blair Walsh were the captains versus the Razorbacks.
First-Time Starters:
Junior OG Tanner Strickland made the first start of his career, lining up at RG. Senior Chris Davis started the first two games at the position and had made 12 consecutive starts before Saturday. Sophomore CB Sanders Commings also started his first game for the Bulldog defense.
Next Week's Opponent:
Georgia (1-2, 0-2 SEC) heads to Starkville, Miss., to face Mississippi State (1-1, 0-1 SEC) on Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. EDT on FSN. The Bulldogs topped Mississippi State 27-24 in Athens in 2006 and lead the all-time series 16-5. The Western Division Bulldogs face LSU in Baton Rouge tonight at 7 p.m. EDT.
