ATHENS, Ga. --- September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the Georgia Bulldog football team will be promoting awareness in their very own way this Saturday.

During the Sept. 18 game against Arkansas, Georgia football players will wear on their helmets a logo with a silhouette of Joanna McAfee.

Joanna McAfee, daughter of Jeff and Misty McAfee, was a young girl whose small stature carried an extraordinary Bulldog spirit. Before she was able to see her favorite team play between the hedges, she lost her tragic battle with cancer just three weeks before Georgia won the 2005 SEC Championship.

In her honor, her parents created the Joanna McAfee Childhood Cancer Foundation to raise awareness and provide support for families with children who have cancer.

Jeff and Misty McAfee, as well as many other cancer patients involved in the foundation, will be in attendance to see their daughter’s memory and the cause recognized by the Bulldog nation.
