BRYAN, Texas --- The No. 13-ranked Georgia women's golf team carded a 9-over 297 in Tuesday's second round of the NCAA Fall Preview at Texas A&M's Traditions Golf Club, slipping from first to fourth on the team leaderboard in the process.
The Bulldogs are eight shots off the pace of Alabama entering Wednesday's final round.
A day after shooting a school-record 11-under, the Bulldogs started slowly before playing better on the back half of the course. Georgia posted just one double-bogey among its five golfers on Monday but had three Bulldogs double-bogey the opening hole on Tuesday.
"It definitely wasn't our best day," head coach Kelley Hester said. "It says a lot about our golf team that they hung in there. A lot of times it's hard to come back after playing great like we did yesterday. All-in-all, we're still in the hunt. We'll go out there tomorrow and do the best we can and go from there."
After turning at 8-over, Georgia played the final nine holes at 1-over as a team.
"We played No. 1 at 7-over and a lot of that was course management stuff," Hester said. "We got ourselves in trouble early, but we still shot 297. Today was a day that last year probably would've turned into a 310 last season. I was proud of them. It started rough, but we were able to hang together."
Marta Silva Zamora led the Bulldogs with a 3-under 69, with Georgia also counting a 75 from Kendall Wright, a 76 from Emilie Burger and a 77 by Milena Savich. On Monday, Georgia discarded a 73 as its non-counter.
Silva Zamora turned at 2-under following birdies at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 and a bogey at No. 4. She bogeyed No. 10 but then birdied No. 15 and No. 18 to wrap up at 3-under.
Alabama surged to the top of the team leaderboard with an 8-under 280. The Crimson Tide is 10-under through 36 holes, four shots better than LSU. Rounding out the top-10 teams are Southern Cal at 571, the Bulldogs and Vanderbilt both at 574, Duke and UCLA at 580, Tulane at 590, Virginia at 591 and Auburn and Purdue at 593.
Marina Alex of Vanderbilt and Brooke Pancake of Alabama are knotted atop the individual leaderboard at 6-under 138. For Georgia, Silva Zamora is tied for 10th at 141, Burger is tied for 18th at 143, Wright is tied for 21st at 144, Savich is tied for 48th at 150 and freshman Amelia Hill is tied for 62nd at 152.
