Kyle Farmer Named Freshman All-American

ATHENS -- University of Georgia shortstop Kyle Farmer has been named a 2010 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American as chosen by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Farmer, a 6-0, 187-pound native of Atlanta, Ga., batted .340 with three home runs and 25 RBI in 39 games including 38 starts this past season. He posted a .967 fielding percentage, which was a school record for a shortstop. He made just six errors in 182 total chances. The old mark belonged to current teammate Levi Hyams who registered a .962 fielding percentage in 2009. In Southeastern Conference action, Farmer was even better, fielding .982 with only two errors in 110 total chances, and he hit .293-3-17. During the season, Farmer missed 15 games after breaking the hamate bone in his left wrist.
Farmer is the 22nd Bulldog in school history to be named a Freshman All-American and the first shortstop since Gordon Beckham in 2006.
Farmer earned a spot on the 2010 Freshman All-America team that featured multiple players at each position. The other shortstops honored included Devin Marrero (Arizona State), Nolan Fontana (Florida), Ryan Lashley (Stetson), Justin Roland (UNC-Charlotte), Will Muzika (Furman), Eric Stamets (Evansville) and Austin Elkins (Dallas Baptist).
