Georgia In The NCAA Tournament
Georgia has reached the title match in three of the last four years, including team titles in 2007 and 2008. The Bulldogs have won a total of six NCAA team championships (1985, 1987, 1999, 2001, 2007, 2008) which stands second among any school in the modern era. Georgia has the most -- four -- since 1999 of any team in the nation. Five of those titles (all but 2008-Tulsa) came in Athens.
The Bulldogs have advanced to the finals a staggering 13 times in the last 25 years and have moved out of the regional rounds in each of the last four years.
Georgia has hosted the NCAA Championships a total of 25 times before to lead all schools.
A Look At Florida
The Bulldogs will be going for their first win over UF in three tries this season after falling 4-0 on Feb. 14 in the ITA National Indoors and suffering another setback, 5-2, in dual match action on April 11 in Athens.
No. 6 Florida (21-4) reached the Round of 16 with a pair of 4-0 sweeps over South Carolina State and Auburn at the Ring Tennis Center in Gainesville, Fla. The victory over the Tigers on Sunday sent UF into the Round of 16 for the 16th time in the past 20 years and the eighth in head coach Andy Jackson’s nine seasons leading the program.
Individually, the Gators have two players ranked in the ITA poll in No. 7 Alex Lacroix and No. 110 Antoine Benneteau. In doubles, that duo is ranked eighth while the team of Sekou Bangoura, Jr., and Joey Burkhardt are No. 68.
Georgia is 50-18 all-time against Florida and 2-0 in NCAA Championships action (1993, 2007).
