April 24, 2010 | Football
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Tennessee Titans made linebacker Rennie Curran the first Bulldog to be picked in the 2010 NFL Draft after selecting him in the third round with the 97th pick on Friday night.
Curran, a 5-11, 225-pound native of Snellville, Ga., led the Bulldogs with a combined 245 tackles during the 2008 and 2009 seasons, including 130 to lead Georgia this past season. A finalist for the Rotary Lombardi Award, Curran tallied a career-high 16 tackles versus No. 4 LSU during the 2009 season.
After having five players drafted in the first three rounds at the 2009 NFL Draft, including the No. 1 overall pick in Matthew Stafford, Curran is the first Georgia player to get selected in 2010.
Both Bulldog cornerback Asher Allen and defensive tackle Corvey Irvin were taken in third round of last year’s draft. The Minnesota Vikings selected Allen with the 86th pick while the Carolina Panthers picked Irvin 93rd.
Curran is the first Bulldog to ever be selected by the Titans.
The fourth through seventh rounds of the NFL Draft resume at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
All Bulldogs picked throughout the draft will be posted here on georgiadogs.com.
