SEC Women's Tennis Championship Preview

The Georgia women’s tennis team will go for its fourth straight SEC Tournament title this week in Athens when it plays host to the event at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex from April 22-25.
The 15th-ranked Bulldogs (12-7, 8-3 SEC), under the direction of head coach Jeff Wallace, will be the No. 4 seed and have a first round bye. They will be in action Friday at 10 a.m. against the South Carolina-Kentucky winner.
Georgia has won six SEC Tournament titles and holds a 44-16 all-time mark in this event which has been held 22 times since 1982. This will be third time the tournament will be in Athens. Georgia claimed the title in Athens in 1983 and finished second in 1997. They captured the SEC Tournament title in 1994 in Fayetteville, Ark., and in 2007 (Lexington, Ky.), 2008 (Auburn, Ala.) and 2009 (Fayetteville, Ark.).
Florida will be the top seed followed by Ole Miss, Tennessee and the Bulldogs. As the top four seeds, they all enjoy a first round bye on Thursday. The SEC Tournament champion will earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, which Georgia will also play host to next month (May 20-31).
