Courtney McCool Qualifies For NCAA Individual Championships

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia senior Courtney McCool will compete in the individual portion of the 2010 NCAA Gymnastics Championships on the balance beam and floor exercise, according to an announcement Monday by the NCAA.
The championships will be held at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on the campus of the University of Florida, April 22-24.
The championships consist of 12 teams and 12 all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and individual event specialists. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors from each regional received automatic berths to the national championships.
In addition, the event winners at the regional championships advance to the national championships (in their specific event) if they were not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
A native of Lees Summit, Mo., McCool competed in all 13 meets this season and was Georgia’s anchor on floor 12 times and anchor on beam 11 times. She won 14 event titles including eight on floor, five on beam and one on bars.
McCool scored a 9.900 or higher on floor in 11 of Georgia’s 13 meets this season including a season-high 9.975 against NC State. Her season-high on the balance beam was a 9.975 at Florida on Feb. 19.
McCool won the beam title at the NCAA Columbia Regional with a 9.900 and tied for first on floor with a 9.900. She won the 2008 NCAA floor championship and is a two-time All-American.
Team semifinal and all-around competition will be conducted in two sessions Thursday, April 22 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET. The top three teams from each semifinal will advance to the Super Six competition Friday, April 23 at 6 p.m. The top four individuals from each session in each event (plus ties) from the preliminary team and all-around competition will compete in the individual-event competition Saturday, April 24 at 6 p.m.
