Georgia Gymnastics Headed To Missouri For NCAA Regionals
March 29, 2010 | Gymnastics
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia gymnastics team will compete in the NCAA Columbia, Mo., Regional as the No. 1 seed on April 10, it was announced Monday.
Joining the fifth-ranked Gym Dogs in order of seeding will be eighth-ranked Oregon State, host and 15th-ranked Missouri, 25th-ranked Minnesota, Iowa and North Carolina. The meet will begin at 6 p.m. CT.
Georgia’s rotation for the meet will be bye, floor, vault, bye, bars, beam.
The NCAA seeded 36 teams in a total of six Regionals on Monday. The top two teams from each Regional will advance to the NCAA Championship in Gainesville, Fla., April 22-24.
“We aren’t familiar with all the teams in the regional, but you don’t want to think about who else is on the floor with you,” said Georgia head coach Jay Clark. “We need to compete with a focus we can maintain and stay on task for 24 routines.”
The Gym Dogs (10-7) are coming off a third place finish at the SEC Championship last Saturday. Georgia is ranked 10th nationally on vault, fourth on bars, second on balance beam and sixth on floor. Three Georgia gymnasts claimed titles and another finished second at the SEC Championship: Courtney McCool won the floor title with a 9.950, Kat Ding won the bars title with a 9.925, Hilary Mauro tied for first on vault with a 9.900 and Grace Taylor was second on beam with a 9.925.
Georgia has won a total of 21 NCAA Regionals including 11 in the last 12 years, and 10 NCAA titles including the last five.
The other five No. 1 seeds include UCLA, Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma and Stanford.
