Georgia Cruises To 5-2 Win Over Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. --- The 14th-ranked Georgia women's tennis team remained undefeated in SEC action with a 5-2 win over 22nd-ranked Arkansas Friday.
The Bulldogs (9-4, 5-0 SEC) captured the doubles point and picked up four victories in singles for their latest win. The first team point came down to No. 2 doubles where Bulldog senior Yvette Hyndman and junior Cameron Ellis edged Kate Lukomskaya and Kelsey Sundaram 9-8 in a thrilling match, ultimately taking the tiebreaker 10-8. Overall, the Georgia pair saved five match points while the Arkansas duo staved off defeat twice. Before the tiebreaker, the Razorbacks built a 4-0 lead and led 7-2 before Hyndman and Elliss saved two match points. Then, the Georgia duo fought back to take an 8-7 lead and had two match point opportunities. In the tiebreaker, Arkansas had three chances for the win but the Bulldog team responded and came through 10-8.
Arkansas won at No. 3 as Claudine Paulson and Valentina Starkova beat Naoko Ueshima and Lara Fakhoury 8-2. Georgia evened the match with a win at No. 1 from the dominating duo of ninth-ranked Chelsey Gullickson and Nadja Gilchrist. They defeated Anouk Tigu and Stephanie Roy 8-5. For the Gullickson/Gilchrist team, it was their 15th straight win, and they are 16-3 overall.
"Doubles was unbelievable, and it was great to get that first team point," said Georgia coach Jeff Wallace. "Yvette and Cameron hung in there and got the job done, and it was good to see Chelsey and Nadja back on the court as a team. Nadja did an impressive job in winning her singles and doubles match coming back from her ankle injury."
In singles, Georgia got wins from Ellis,Gilchrist,Gullickson and Hyndman. The ninth-ranked Gullickson dispatched 55th-ranked Tigu 6-2,6-4 to clinch the team victory. Gullickson improved to 19-6 on the year including 10-3 at No. 1. Gilchrist returned to action after missing last week due to a sprained ankle. She defeated Emily Carbone 6-3,6-1 to move her record to 19-5 including 10-2 at No.2. Meanwhile, Hyndman stayed perfect at 5-0 in SEC action this year with a straight set win over Roy at No. 3.
The Razorbacks (12-6, 2-3 SEC) managed wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Sundaram posted a 6-1,6-3 win over Usehima at No. 4 while Starkova defeated Fakhoury 6-2,6-1 at No. 6.
