Tech Defeats Georgia 5-2 In Women's Tennis

ATLANTA-----With Bulldog sophomore Nadja Gilchrist sidelined due to a sprained ankle, 12th-ranked Georgia fell short in their bid to defeat Georgia Tech Saturday as the Yellow Jackets posted a 5-2 win.

The Yellow Jackets (8-5) captured the doubles point and collected four wins in singles to snap Georgia's four-match winning streak. The Bulldogs (8-4) moved up four of their players in the lineup due to Gilchrist's injury and freshman walk-on Kelly Jordan made her debut at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles with senior Lara Fakhoury.

Hyndman and junior Cameron Ellis were the two Bulldogs to notch singles wins while Chelsey Gullickson and Ellis did get a victory at No. 1 doubles. Ellis and Hyndman won super tiebreakers in lieu of a third set with the overall match outcome determined. Ellis defeated Lynn Blau 3-6,6-3,1-0 in the No. 4 match. Hyndman edged Sasha Krupina 6-2,6-7(4),1-0 at No. 2 singles. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets got wins at No. 1 from top-ranked Irina Falconi, at No. 3 from Viet Ha Ngo, at No. 5 from Hillary Davis and at No. 6 from Elizabeth Kilborn.

Normally, Gilchrist plays No. 1 doubles with Gullickson and No. 2 singles. In fact, the Gilchrist/Gullickson duo is on a 14-match winning streak with a record of 15-3 and a national ranking of No. 9. In singles, Gilchrist is ranked 25th nationally with an 18-5 record including 9-2 at No. 2.

Georgia returns to SEC action on March 26 at Arkansas, In Georgia's last trip to Fayetteville, the Bulldogs captured their third straight SEC Tournament title.
