ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia men’s tennis team climbed three spots to No. 6 in the ITA National Team Rankings released Tuesday. The Bulldogs are coming off a pair of 4-3 SEC wins including a victory over then-No. 6 Kentucky last Friday.

Virginia is No. 1 followed by Tennessee, Southern Cal, Ohio State, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Baylor, Kentucky and UCLA to round out the top 10.

This marks the highest ranking of the season for Georgia, which began the year ranked No. 7. The Bulldogs (12-2, 4-0 SEC) have won their last seven matches.

In the singles rankings, junior Javier Garrapiz moved up to No. 18, while senior Nate Schnugg is No. 96. In doubles, Schnugg and Jamie Hunt entered the rankings for the first time this year at No. 39.

Garrapiz leads Georgia with 23 singles wins including 11 against ranked opponents. Drake Bernstein is next with 21 followed by Christian Vitulli with 19; Vitulli is riding a seven-match winning streak. Schnugg and Hunt, the Bulldogs’ No. 1 doubles tandem, have 14 wins.

The Bulldogs return to action Friday at 2:30 p.m. against defending national champion and third-ranked Southern Cal at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Admission is free, and the first 275 fans receive Georgia tennis etched drinking glasses.
