Bulldog Throwers Lead Georgia At Tyson Invite

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- Georgia’s throwers racked up three NCAA provisional qualifying marks to lead the Bulldogs at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
During late action on Friday, sophomore Nikola Lomnicka posted her fourth straight career-best effort in the weight throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 67 feet, 6 ¾ inches. Lomnicka opened with a personal-best mark of 66-10.50 before launching her top throw on her third attempt. She jumped Canadian Olympian Sultana Frizell to move into the No. 2 spot on the school’s all-time top-10 list.
Also, junior Alesha Asijie had a personal-beset mark of 61 feet on her fourth attempt to finish fifth in the event.
In the men’s weight throw on Friday, the Bulldogs had a pair of team members tally NCAA provisional qualifying marks. Senior John Freeman reached 68 feet for the second consecutive meet and finished third with a top throw of 68-0.50. Fellow senior Branislav Danis saved his career-best throw for his sixth and final attempt and finished fifth with a mark of 66-4.50. This put Danis at the No. 10 spot in the school record books.
Senior David Schiedt, who also had his fourth straight meet with a personal-best effort, took eighth with a mark of 61-4.25.
Sophomore Kristie Krueger, junior Odeika Bent, senior Taylor Adams and junior Summer Nelson ran the distance medley relay for the Lady Bulldogs and finished third with a time of 11:45.97. This finish gave the Georgia quartet the sixth-best time in school history.
On a similar path, the Georgia men also took over the new No. 6 spot on the Bulldogs’ all-time top-10 list in the distance medley relay. Freshmen Danny Neff, Ryan Hershner and Brendonn Jones worked with sophomore Nick Long to cross the finish line in 10:02.16 to take seventh place.
In addition, sophomore Allen Brandon also managed a third-place finish in the pole vault after clearing 16-0.75.
Former Lady Bulldog Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie, who was a four-time NCAA champion for Georgia from 1996-99, cruised to a victory in the 200-meter dash after clocking a 23.04. Her time is the fastest in the world this year.
In the men’s 200, freshman Eric Harris won his heat and tied with the ninth-best time in school history (21.62) to take 33rd overall.
