Georgia Wins Fifth Straight, Tops High Point

Athens, GA -- Gerald Robinson scored 21 points to lead a parade of scorers in Georgia's first blowout win of the season, an 85-38 decision over High Point here Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs (8-2) won their fifth straight by dominating the second half of play. They shot 64 percent in the final period, stretching a 10-point halftime by outscoring the Panthers 51-14.
"It was good to win one by a large margin," Georgia head coach Mark Fox said. "We feel fortunate to ge a big win and also get a lot of guys significant playing time. That should help us as we continue to grow as a team throughout the season."
Robinson paced Georgia's first-half attack with 10 points as the Bulldogs took command in the final 10 minutes. They got their first double-digit lead at the 10:49 mark on a mid-range jumper by Robinson, pushing the margin to 20-9. Their largest advantage of the first half came twice at 13 points, the final time on a pair of Donte' Williams free throws that got Georgia a 34-21 margin.
Georgia blew the game open by scoring the first seven points of the second half. Trey Thompkins, who finished with 15 points, tallied the first five and Dustin Ware followed a High Point turnover with a jumper at the 18:20 mark, pushing Georgia ahead 41-24.
When Thompkins made two foul shots with 11:01 left, giving Georgia a 60-32 cushion, the Bulldog bench began to clear. By the 9:26 mark, the starting five was done for the night.
Among the reserves, junior Connor Nolte scored 11 points on 4x4 shooting. Sherrard Brantley added five points and freshmen Donte' Williams and Marcus Thornton had four apiece. Junior guard Matt Bucklin, a walk-on for the past two seasons, scored his first career point against the Panthers. Shay Shine led High Point (5-5) with 15 points.
The Bulldogs resume their season this Thursday at Mercer in a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
