ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia soccer redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Baker picked up her sixth and seventh shutouts of the season this past weekend on her way to SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors, according to the Southeastern Conference office's weekly release.
The native of Lilburn, Ga., kept both Ole Miss and Mississippi State out of the net, totaling seven saves on the weekend tour through the Magnolia State. Baker's biggest save of the weekend came with under 10 seconds to play in Friday night's game as she blocked a point-blank shot by an open attacker to preserve the 0-0 draw with the Rebels in Oxford.
Baker has posted three straight shutouts and has gone a total of 389:25 since last allowing a goal, the longest streak in the SEC this season. She has given up just one goal in conference action (0.17 per game) and leads the league with a 0.15 goals-against average through six SEC games. Her five shutouts in six SEC contests lead the league as the Bulldogs remain unbeaten in the conference at 3-0-3.
Baker and the rest of the squad will remain on the road for a critical pair this weekend when they travel to meet nationally-ranked South Carolina and Florida, who currently sit in front of the Bulldogs in the SEC standings.
The award was the first of Baker's young career and Georgia's third weekly honor of 2010.
