Getting to Know UGA Equestrian's Emma Lipman
January 08, 2010 | Equestrian
In the competition ring, few riders mean as much to Georgia Equestrian as sophomore Emma Lipman. Away from the sport, however, the Bedford, N.Y., native may be just as vital to the Bulldogs.
Lipman competes for Georgia in both Hunt Seat events and, through the fall portion of the 2009-10 schedule, she has compiled an 11-3 overall record, 6-1 over Fences and 5-2 on the Flat. She has a pair of MVP rides to her credit as well.
Lipman's performances thus far is merely a continuation of her outstanding freshman-year efforts. At the Varsity National championships, she had a 5-0-1 record in team competition that included a critical Fences point in the semifinal meet against South Carolina.
The sophomore also serves the Bulldog program as one of its top philanthropists. Georgia riders are already leaders among all UGA student-athletes in community service, and Lipman is front and center in their activities.
The following Q&A with Lipman is the fourth in a season-long series of features on prominent UGA Equestrian riders.

A: I don't eat meat.

Q: Can you speak a little about your role on the team's Philanthropy Council?
A: I really do enjoy setting everything up though because it is great to feel like we are helping and are a part of something important. I am responsible for making sure everyone's hours are recorded and that we have sufficient activities to achieve our goals. I think as a student- athlete, it is important to be part of the community and give back to all those who support us at UGA. I think it is great for our image and it makes people want to support our team.
