Men's Tennis Opens 2010 At SEC Indoor Tournament

Georgia joins fellow Southeastern Conference squads No. 5 Tennessee, No. 10 Ole Miss, No. 11 Florida, No. 14 Kentucky, No. 18 Alabama, No. 29 LSU, and Mississippi State in the season-opener.
“Looking at the draw, it’s a very elite field,” said head coach Manuel Diaz. “It's really an outstanding compilation of the nation's top players. There are no easy matches. It will be a tremendous challenge for our guys and they have a great sense of excitement with the realization that the season is beginning.”

The seventh-ranked Bulldogs are coming off a productive fall season that saw junior Javier Garrapiz advance to the semifinals of the consolation draw at the ITA National Indoor Tournament in New Haven, Conn. The native of Huesca, Spain, was also named Co-Champion of the 2009 Southern Intercollegiates held in Athens. Garrapiz was tabbed No. 45 in the ITA Rankings to start the season, while teammate Drake Bernstein is rated No. 60.
Senior Nate Schnugg returns from a knee injury and will again team with doubles partner Jamie Hunt to lead the charge for UGA.
The 2010 season will mark the debut of freshmen Bo Seal, Will Oliver, and Will Reynolds.
Competition at the tournament is set to kick off Friday at 8 a.m. with the round of 64 singles, followed by the round of 32 singles and the round of 32 doubles. Saturday will pick up with the round of 32 singles consolation at 9 a.m., followed by the round of 16 singles, round of 16 doubles, and doubles quarterfinals.
Sunday will see the singles quarterfinals begin at 9 a.m., followed by the round of 16 singles consolation matches and the semifinals of both singles and doubles.
The event will wrap up Monday with both sets of finals.
