Courtney McCool Named SEC Gymnast Of The Week

January 12, 2010 | Gymnastics

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia senior Courtney McCool has been named Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week for her performance against Stanford, the league office announced Tuesday.

McCool, a native of Lees Summitt, Mo., posted a clutch 9.925 on floor in Georgia’s final routine to lead the Gym Dogs to a 195.150-195.050 win over the seventh-ranked Cardinal on Saturday.

Stanford rallied late to take a late lead as Georgia was forced to count a 9.150 on floor. With only one routine left, the Gym Dogs needed a 9.825 to tie Stanford, and McCool responded with the meet's highest floor score to extend the Georgia's regular season winning streak to 13 meets.

McCool, who is tied for first nationally on floor, was the 2008 NCAA floor champion and is a two-time All-American on floor and beam. She is currently featured on the lead story on NCAAsports.com for her heroics against Stanford.

The Gym Dogs travel to Alabama for the first of three straight road meets Friday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern.
