Jeff Wallace Selected To Georgia Tennis Hall Of Fame

ATHENS, Ga. --- University of Georgia women’s tennis coach Jeff Wallace will be inducted into the state of Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame on Thursday, May 6 at a banquet sponsored by the Georgia Tennis Foundation at the Cherokee Town Club in Atlanta.
This is the latest honor for Wallace who begins his 25th year with the Bulldogs and is the nation’s winningest active women’s tennis coach. The 2009 season marked the fourth time in his career he received Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Coach of the Year honors. He is the only women’s coach in the country to earn that distinction four times.
Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame members are selected based upon outstanding playing record, coaching achievements, volunteer service to the game, and/or exceptional noteworthy accomplishments to the game of tennis. The purpose of the Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame is to honor those persons, who by excellence of their activities and/or their records of outstanding competitive achievements, have brought recognition and esteem to themselves and to tennis in Georgia.
Wallace owns a record of 527-127 for a .806 winning percentage. He has led the Bulldogs to a pair of NCAA Championships, three National Team Indoor titles, seven Southeastern Conference crowns and six SEC Tournament titles. The 2009 season marked the 21st time in his 24 seasons at the helm that the Bulldogs concluded a year ranked in the top 10. He has had 26 different players earn 80 All-America honors, three National Senior-of-the-Year selections and two Honda Award winners for tennis.
Also, Wallace has been part of the host staff for NCAA Championships as well as ITA Regional and SEC tournaments at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. He has participated in numerous tennis clinics and various community service efforts to promote the game of tennis.
A 1985 graduate of UGA, he capped his playing career under legendary Bulldog head coach Dan Magill in 1984 after winning the SEC singles title at the No. 6 spot. He was hired as the women’s tennis coach in 1986 and took a team that had a losing record the previous year and led them to a 20-9 mark and a spot in the final top 25 poll. Then in 1987, Wallace directed the Bulldogs to the brink of a national championship as they advanced to the NCAA title match and a final national ranking of No. 6.
Wallace and his wife Sabina have two children, Brittany (21) and Jarryd (19).

Governor Pierre Howard (1994), Lisa Spain Short (1995), Al Parker (2003), Allen Miller (2004), Jaime Kaplan (2006) and Mikael Pernfors (2008).
