UGA Swimmer Scroggy Earns Gold At World University Games

ATHENS, Ga. --- Morgan Scroggy, a rising junior for the Georgia women’s swimming and diving team, won a gold medal for the United States this week at the World University Games.
Competing in Belgrade, Serbia, Scroggy swam the anchor leg of the women’s 4x100-meter freestyle relay that won in 3:41.81. Scroggy, the school record holder in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard freestyle, swam the final 100 meters in 54.68. She was joined on the relay by Michelle King, Madison Kennedy and Ava Ohlgren.
Scroggy, a native of Aurora, Ore., finished eighth in the 50-meter butterfly in 27.22. Former Georgia standouts and French competitors Sebastien Rouault and Alexandra Putra came in sixth in the 400-meter freestyle (3:49.94) and the 200-meter backstroke (2:16.82), respectively.
In other swimming news involving Georgia competitors, the 2009 ConocoPhillips National Championships and World Championship Trials will begin Tuesday. Coach Jack Bauerle, who guided the United States’ women’s team at the Beijing Olympics, will be joined in Indianapolis by Anne-Marie Botek, Annie Broome, Lisa Caprioglio, Lauren Cartwright, Bill Cregar, Mary DeScenza, Kelsey Ditto, Mark Dylla, Andrea Georoff, Colleen Haase, Kara Lynn Joyce, Martin Kata, Hunter Lainhart, Erica Malagon, Robert Margalis, Todd McGraw, Kelly McNichols, Allison Schmitt and Kristen Shickora.
