ROME, Italy --- Rising Georgia sophomore Allison Schmitt added another medal at the FINA World Championships on Thursday.

Schmitt swam the anchor leg of the United States’ 4x200-meter freestyle relay that came in second to China. Schmitt posted a time of 1:54.21, which was the fastest split of the race, to make things interesting at the end. China won in 7:42.08 (setting a world record) and the United States touched in 7:42.56. Team USA was behind a full second when Schmitt entered the water.

Schmitt was the silver medalist in Wednesday’s 200-meter freestyle finals, setting the American record in 1:54.96.

Former Georgia swimmer Mary DeScenza came in fourth in the women’s 200-meter butterfly final with a time of 2:04.41. On Wednesday, DeScenza set the world and American records as she touched in 2:04.14 in the prelims. But that time was eclipsed by finals winner Jessicah Schipper of Australia, who stopped the clock in 2:03.41 on Thursday.
