Equestrian Welcomes Transfer Samantha Baker

ATHENS, Ga. --- University of Georgia Equestrian coach Meghan Boenig on Thursday announced that Samantha Baker, a talented and accomplished Western rider, is transferring into the Bulldog program and will be eligible to compete in the coming 2010 season.

Baker, from Ellijay, Ga., spent the past year attending the University of Minnesota.  She is a 2008 graduate of Woodstock High School in Woodstock.

"We're very excited to have Samantha joining our program," Boenig said.  "We think she will be a great addition to our corps of Western riders.  She has the maturity that we need and the dedication to compete successfully at a high level.”

Baker, who will compete for Georgia in the Horsemanship events, is a 2-time World Champion in American Pinto Horse Association events.  She’s also a 6-time APHA Reserve World Champion, with numerous APHA Top 10 awards.  Baker was the All-Around Year-End winner from 2005-07 in the Georgia Paint Horse Club and also its Sportsmanship Award winner.

Baker joins four other Western signees that will join the Georgia program as newcomers in August: Michelle Fulcher of Stockbridge, Ga.; Melanie Galbraith of Rocky Mount, N.C.; Becca Haaland of Edmond, Okla.; and Maria Salazar of Portland, Ore.
