July 28, 2009 | Swimming & Diving

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia swimming program will be adding three transfer student-athletes for the 2009-2010 season.

Sara Nicponski will be joining the Lady Bulldogs, while Austin Stahley and Matt Bartlett will be suiting up for the Bulldogs.

Nicponski is a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, who spent her first two collegiate seasons at UC-Santa Barbara. Nicponski is a breaststroke specialist, with top times of 1:00.56 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:11.50 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Each of those times would rank within Georgia’s all-time top 10. At the recent ConocoPhillips National Championships, Nicponski finished fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:06.76) and seventh in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:28.43). In 2008, Nicponski was chosen as the Big West Conference Female Freshman of the Year and qualified for the Olympic Trials.

Stahley logged two seasons at Texas, including a redshirt campaign. A native of Orlando, Fla., Stahley is a versatile swimmer who should be able to help the Bulldogs in the breaststroke, individual medley and backstroke events. He was a three-time High School All-American and a seven-time state champion. Stahley also earned Scholastic All-America honors. He comes from an athletic family as his father, Scott, played basketball for Army under Mike Krzyzewski, and his sister, Desiree, swam for Stanford.

Bartlett, who hails from Cumming and graduated from South Forsyth, swam for Auburn in 2008 and for UC-Santa Barbara in 2009. He scored for the Tigers at the 2008 SEC Championship in the 200 freestyle, the 200 backstroke and the 200 butterfly. His times of 1:36.41 in the 200 freestyle and 1:45.75 in the 200 butterfly would rank on Georgia’s all-time top 10. Bartlett competed for Swim Atlanta under Jeff Hike and Mark Minear, and he captained the 2006 National Junior Team. Bartlett also garnered All-America and Academic All-America honors during his age-group career.
