Georgia Golfers Tie For 14th At Bryan National
April 05, 2009 | Women's Golf
Browns Summit, N.C. --- The No. 8-ranked Georgia women's golf team posted a 311 in Sunday's Friday round of the Bryan National Collegiate and tied for 14th place at 933.
For Georgia, the Bulldogs counted a 77 from Marta Silva Zamora and a trio of 78s from Carolina Andrade, Leigh Crosby and Mallory Hetzel.
"Mallory and Carolina both struggled with their putters today and so did Marta," head coach Kelley Hester said. "We just had another tough day. It looks like we're way off but I think everyone is just a little off. We'll head home, evaluate and work very hard to get ready for the SECs.
Overall, Andrade tied for 35th at 230, Hetzel and Silva Zamora tied for 63rd at 235, Crosby was 68th at 236 and Melissa Brody placed 95th at 262.
No. 9 LSU held off No. 3 Virginia to secure the team title, while the Tigers' Megan McChrystal captured medalist honors to complete the sweep. LSU finished at 887, four shots ahead of the Cavaliers. McChrystal's 54-hole tally of 1-under 215 gave her a three-shot victory.
The Bulldogs will return to action in two weeks when they travel to Columbia, S.C., for the SEC Championships on April 17-19 at the Cobblestone Park Golf Club.
