April 28, 2009 | Volleyball
ATHENS, Ga. University of Georgia head volleyball coach Joel McCartney announced on Tuesday that Adria Fecteau of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, and Kathleen Luft of Thousand Oaks, California, have signed National-Letters-of-Intent and will join the Bulldogs for the fall 2009 season.
"I couldn't be more please to add Adria and Kat to this class of incoming freshman as they will each impact the future of our program in a great way and assist our team in accomplishing more in the Southeastern Conference and beyond," McCartney said.
| | Adria Fecteau Fecteau will graduate from Fuquay-Varina High School in the 95th percentile of her class as a member of the National Beta Club, and she serves as the student council vice president. Fecteau is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. “I love to recruit athletes of character and grace of which, Adria has plenty of both," McCartney said. "She is going to be a tremendous asset immediately as we can use her ball control skills in our back court and her hands in the setting depth of our roster. She is a top notch student-athlete with a great mind in the classroom as well as on the court.” Fecteau was the Raleigh News and Observer Tri-8 Conference Player-of-the-Year in 2008 as she served the FVHS program as the team captain in her junior and senior seasons. She is the starting setter for the Triangle Volleyball Club 18-Black team and led her club to the USAV Carolina Region Championship and a trip to the 2008 USAV national tournament. Fecteau and her partner placed 5th in the 2008 AAU 16U National Beach Championship, and she plans to pursue a professional career in the sand following her graduation from UGA. She is the daughter of Mark and Renata Fecteau. |
| | Kathleen Luft “We are extremely fortunate that Kat chose to play volleyball in college over basketball," McCartney said. "Ultimately, it was her passion for the sport that won her over, and our program will become the major benefactor of that decision. Kat attacks a very heavy ball on the left pin as an outside hitter and will eventually factor into our plans as a terminator in the Bulldog line-up.” Luft was the 2008 Most Valuable Athlete and the Star News First-Team selection for volleyball, basketball and track. Following the 2008 high school volleyball season she was named to the first team of the Marmonte League and Ventura County respectively. This spring she led her program as the starting outside hitter for the Santa Monica Beach Club volleyball team. The SMBC team competes in the Southern California Volleyball Association and travels nationally to compete in the USAV Open Division. She is the daughter of Brian and Donna Luft. |
