April 10, 2009 | Football
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia football team held its final practice of the spring on Friday, working out for about 90 minutes.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs will have their annual G-Day Game at Sanford Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:07 p.m. and ESPN will televise the game.
The G-Day festivities will begin at 11:15 a.m. when approximately 80 Georgia football letterwinners from six different decades, including at least 14 former All-SEC performers, will take part in a flag football game.
The current Bulldogs will then take center stage for the G-Day Game. Following Friday’s practice, the team was split into Red and Black rosters.
“I told our guys after practice that I want to see them compete and I want them to try to win the game,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “Today’s practice was better than I thought it would be considering it’s the last day before G-Day. They had a good time competing against each other today. They had a lot of juice.
“To me, G-Day is a wonderful celebration of Georgia football and the University of Georgia. I’m glad it’s going to be pretty weather and be what a spring game ought to be.”
There will be no admission charged to attend G-Day and Sanford Stadium gates will open at 10:30 a.m. Gates utilized for the public will be the main gate under the Sanford Drive Bridge as well as Gates 2, 4, 6, 7 and 9.
In lieu of an admission fee, fans are encouraged to bring food donations to benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. Among the items most needed are soups, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, rice, pasta and
pop-top canned goods.
