NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- The top-ranked Georgia gymnastics team will open on balance beam on Saturday at the Southeastern Conference Championship.

Senior Abby Stack picked third in Friday's official draw ceremony at the Sommet Center, selecting the beam placard. That means Georgia will have a rotation of beam, bye, floor, bye, vault, bye and bars.

The Gym Dogs are ranked first in the nation on beam with a regional qualifying score of 49.4, a season average of 49.175 and a high score of 49.55. Georgia has three 10.0s on beam this season, one each by Courtney Kupets, Courtney McCool and Grace Taylor.

"I am excited that we get to set the tone for the meet on balance beam," Georgia coach Suzanne Yoculan said. "If we can hit on beam and get it behind us, we should be in pretty good shape. If we can get a high score, that puts the pressure on the other teams. I also like the fact that we are not ending on a bye. We thrive on the head-to-head competition, and we don't like sitting and watching the meet end with us not out there."
Stack said the Gym Dogs are looking forward to starting the postseason on a positive note. Georgia has won 16 SEC titles and nine NCAA championships to date, and the Gym Dogs hope to send Yoculan into retirement with additional crowns.
"I think we all are so excited about the SEC Championship," Stack said. "Beam has been a good event for us, so if we can get off to a good start, we should be able to go higher and higher. Momentum is an essential component in the success of this team, and we need to start off strong and end even stronger."
The SEC Championship will begin at 5:05 p.m. Eastern on Saturday. Live scoring can be found at secsports.com.
