GEORGIA WELCOMES PRESBYTERIAN FOR TWO-GAME SERIES
After sweeping Youngstown State, Georgia plays host to Presbyterian in the Bulldogs’ first midweek series of the 2009 season. The Bulldogs are looking for their fourth 4-0 start in the David Perno era (2004, 2005, 2006). Freshman Cecil Tanner will take the mound Tuesday, and Jason Leaver will get the nod on Wednesday. Tanner pitched 0.2 inning in Friday’s win over Youngstown State, facing three batters and surrendering one hit. Leaver is making his first start since March 25, 2008 against Kennesaw State. He was sidelined in early April with an elbow injury, but returned for the College World Series and tossed 0.1 inning against Fresno State in the finals.

OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION
The Georgia offense exploded for 41 runs on 47 hits during opening weekend and scored double digit runs in its first three games of the season for just the second time since 1980. Entering Monday’s SEC games, the Bulldogs had the league’s highest batting average--.412and Vanderbilt was second with a .343 average. Six players (Johnathan Taylor, Bryce Massanari, Levi Hyams, Joey Lewis, Rich Poythress and Chase Davidson) hit at least .400 and Georgia had five home runs and 12 doubles.

GEORGIA LEADING SEC IN PITCHING
After Sunday’s games, the Bulldogs had a league-best 1.33 ERA and were tied with Florida with only three walks surrendered. Georgia’s starters were 2-0 on opening weekend with a 1.08 ERA. Alex McRee and Justin Grimm both had career-long outings (5.2 IP) and Grimm posted a career-high seven strikeouts on Sunday while taking a perfect game into the sixth. Trevor Holder, McRee and Grimm combined to allow just one walk in 16.2 innings.

TAYLOR NAMED SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Johnathan Taylor earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after serving as the catalyst for the Georgia offense that scored 41 runs in three games. The Acworth, Ga., native batted .800 (8-for-10) with a double, triple and five RBI. Taylor currently leads the team in batting average (.800), slugging percentage (1.100), on base percentage (.867), hits (8), walks (4) and stolen bases (3). He is second in runs scored (5) and third in runs batted in (5). Entering Monday’s SEC games, Taylor was the league leader in batting average, hits, and on-base percentage.
