'In The Dugout' With Freshman Whitney Owens

ATHENS, Ga. --- With the 2009 Georgia softball season now underway, fans can get to know the newest members of the Bulldog softball team with "In The Dugout" features on georgiadogs.com.

The Georgia softball program welcomed 10 freshmen to the team this season, and the Bulldogs are off to a 7-1 on start after the first two weeks of play and return to action this weekend playing host to the Sixth-Annual Georgia Softball Classic. The third installment in this year's "In The Dugout" question and answer series is with Whitney Owens, a pitcher/designated player from Pendleton, Ind., who is majoring in Health Promotions. 

Question: Why Georgia?
Answer: I loved the campus, and Georgia has a great softball program. 

Q: If you could play any other sport in college, what would it be?
A: Gymnastics because I would love to be able to flip through the air like they do.

Q: What is the best advice you have ever received from a coach?
A: Forget about what happened in the past and focus on one play at a time.

Q: You wear number 17 because...
A: I've had number 17 since I first started playing softball.

Q: Two words that describe you on the field?
A: Focused and competitive.

Q: Two words that describe you off the field?
A: Friendly and outgoing.

Q: What are your favorite hobbies?
A: Shopping, hanging out with friends and watching movies.

Q: What celebrity would you most like to meet?
A: Will Smith.

Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: Love & Basketball.

Q: What is your favorite food or meal?
A: Spaghetti and meatballs.

Q: Any hidden talents?
A: I can play the piano. 

Q: Any pets?
A: A Yorkie named Snickers.

Q: What is your favorite vacation spot?
A: Cabo.

Q: What is the one place that you haven't traveled to that you would most like to visit?
A: Europe.
