DeScenza Wins Five Events At Missouri Grand Prix

DeScenza remains as the overall individual points leader in the series and now has accumulated 89 points through three USA Swimming Grand Prix Series meets. She has won 16 out of 19 races shes competed in during the series and has finished as the runner-up in the other three events.
On the opening night of competition, DeScenza swam to victory in two events by first winning the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 1:58.25, one-hundredth of a second ahead of 2008 Olympian Katie Hoff, and then winning the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 58.11.
DeScenza began the second day of competition with a runner-up performance in the 200-meter individual medley, finishing in a time of 2:14.40. She ended the day with a victory in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:01.46.
On the final day of competition, DeScenza won two 200-meter distance events. First, she won the 200-meter butterfly in pool record time of 2:07.46, and then concluded her three-day effort with a victory in the 200-meter backstroke in a time of 2:11.06, more than two seconds ahead of the field.
Swimmers earn five points toward the overall standings for a first-place finish, three for a second and one for a third. The overall points leader following the six Grand Prix events will win a $20,000 prize.
The next stop in the Grand Prix Series will be held at the University of Texas for the Austin Grand Prix, which begins March 4.
