Bulldog Volleyball Continues Home Stand This Weekend

October 21, 2009 | Volleyball

ATHENS, Ga. - The Georgia Bulldog volleyball team will continue its five-match home stand this weekend by welcoming the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide to the Ramsey Student Center.

On Friday, Georgia (11-9, 2-7 Southeastern Conference) will square off against Mississippi State (5-16, 1-9 SEC) in a Battle of the Bulldogs match at 7 p.m. ET. The two teams met earlier this season in Starkville, Miss., and UGA won that match by a score of 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-15) to extend its current winning streak in the series to four.

On Sunday, UGA faces off against Alabama (6-14, 4-6 SEC) with first serve slated for 1:30 p.m. The Bulldogs traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala., back on Sept. 18 for their first conference match of 2009, which went to the Crimson Tide in three sets with scores of 29-27, 25-14 and 25-15. That victory was UA's second-straight over UGA and it moved the all-time series between the schools to an even 18-18.

Georgia enters the weekend looking to snap a four-match losing streak following a tough stretch that has included contests against two top-10 ranked teams in Kentucky and Florida. Both Mississippi State and Alabama will be looking to end losing streaks as well. The Bulldogs from Starkville will come to Athens having fallen in nine of their last 10 matches including last three. The Crimson Tide will begin the weekend by playing Friday at Auburn, where they will look to end a five-match skid.

Admission is free to all regular season matches at the Ramsey Center. Match promotions for Friday's contest against Mississippi State include "Campus Organization Night," with the largest campus organization in attendance receiving free pizza, and "Greek Night," with the largest UGA Greek chapter in attendance receiving $100 towards their philanthropy. Sunday's match versus Alabama will feature a UGA student pizza promotion with each group of four students to check in at the promotions table before the match receiving free pizza.

Live stats for both contests will be available via www.georgiadogs.com, and fans can also log on for free live video of the UGA-MSU match and free live audio of the UGA-UA match courtesy of GXtra.

Following this weekend's action, Georgia will conclude its five-match home stand against Auburn on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
