Bulldog Track & Field 12th In National Poll

January 28, 2009 | Track & Field

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia men’s track and field team has surged into the 12th spot in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll.

This jump from 20th in the USTFCCCA preseason poll came less than a week after the Bulldog men racked up seven wins and three NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the Carle/Health Alliance Classic in Champaign, Ill., on Jan. 24.

“It’s flattering to get a ranking like that and we will accept it,” Georgia head coach Wayne Norton said. “But all it really means is that we have had a couple guys who have started out this season with some good performances. Our challenge is now to sustain that ranking and carry it through February and the (Southeastern Conference) Championships.”

Individually, freshman Torrin Lawrence is ranked No. 1 nationally in the 200-meter dash and the 400, the 4x400 team is ranked No. 6, senior Justin Gaymon is ranked No. 12 in the 60 hurdles, senior Adam Sarafian is ranked No. 14 in the pole vault and senior Jamaal Parker is ranked No. 16 in the triple jump.

Georgia’s track and field teams return to action at the Niswonger Invitational (Johnson City, Tenn.) and the JRF Multi-Events Challenge (Clemson, S.C.) on Jan. 30-31.
