Bulldogs Reach Midway Point Of Three-A-Day Soccer Practices
August 08, 2008 | Soccer
Athens, Ga. --- The Georgia soccer team wrapped up day two of three-a-day preseason workouts Thursday at the practice fields next to the Turner Soccer Complex. For the second straight day, head coach Patrick Baker was pleased with the team’s effort.
“We continued our defensive scheme teaching today, and I thought they picked up right where they left off yesterday,” Baker said. “They embraced the topics and managed to perform well. We tried to organize how we wanted to defend as individuals and as groups. Today we also focused on the beginnings of a back four. We want to make sure we get that sooner than later.”
The day again consisted of fitness standards in the first session followed by a defending session in the middle of the day before the team moved to the UGA Soccer Stadium for a final workout at 5:30 p.m. Rain moving through the Athens area on Thursday afternoon cleared out just in time for the final session of the day.
"Sometimes the heat follows a storm like that, but today we got a little bit of cloud cover," Baker said. "We had a little breeze and the cooler temperatures probably helped us."
The Bulldogs will take the early session off Friday and start the day with a 9:30 a.m. practice.
“Based on their performance in fitness and training, we are rewarding them with the early morning session off so we will jump right into the training session,” Baker said.
Following Friday’s practice, Georgia will hold its final three-a-day workout Saturday. The Bulldogs play host to Mercer in the season opener on Friday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m.
