Bulldogs Resume Practice, Holder To Start

OMAHA, Neb. --- Sixth-ranked Georgia returned to practice Wednesday, working out for 90 minutes at Bellevue East High School in preparation for their upcoming College World Series winner's bracket contest. Georgia enjoyed an off day on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs (43-23-1-) are 2-0 at the CWS following wins over top-ranked Miami and seventh-ranked Stanford. Georgia will play again Friday at 2 p.m. ET against the winner of tonight's Miami-Stanford game. The loser of the UM-SU game will be eliminated from the CWS. Georgia needs one more victory in its half of the bracket to advance to the national championship series, a best two-out-of-three game format that begins Monday.
Georgia head coach David Perno said junior Trevor Holder will get the start Friday. It will be his team-leading 17th start this season, and he is 8-4 with a 4.45 ERA. He started the CWS opener against the Hurricanes last Saturday and got a no decision. He pitched four innings and allowed three runs on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts.In the postseason this year, Holder is 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA in three starts over a span of 16.2 innings. Georgia's bullpen in the CWS has allowed just one run in 11 innings.
"We're excited to be 2-0, and we've got some time off so we'll see how we play on Friday," said Perno. "Our team is relaxed, and I know they will be fresh and ready to go but whoever we play will have had a day off too. Our team has been locked in, they have been through a lot together the last few years so I'm not worried about them coming back and being ready. They will pull from their experiences and will be looking to accomplish their goal."
