Beckham, Kupets, Taylor, Kapurch Named Academic All-Americans

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia student-athletes Gordon Beckham, Courtney Kupets, Grace Taylor and Joseph Kapurch have been named to 2008 ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-America Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Beckham was named to the Second Team for baseball, while gymnasts Kupets and Taylor earned Second-Team At-Large honors and swimmer Kapurch was a
Third-Team At-Large selection.
Beckham and his Georgia teammates will open play in the College World Series on Saturday against Miami. Beckham has a 3.21 grade point average as a Real
Estate major and recently was chosen as the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Beckham also earned First-Team All-America and SEC Player of the Year honors
as he is batting .401 with 26 homers and 72 RBI. He was drafted eighth overall by the Chicago White Sox earlier this month.
Kupets boasts a 3.82 GPA in Furnishing and Interiors. The 2007 Honda Award winner and a two-time NCAA all-around champion, Kupets missed the latter part of the 2008 season with an injured Achilles tendon. Before the injury, Kupets ranked first in the nation on bars and second on vault, winning 14 individual titles.
Taylor has a 3.98 GPA in Psychology. She helped Georgia win its fourth straight NCAA team title as she earned All-America honors on bars, beam and floor. Taylor then became Georgias fourth NCAA individual champion on beam with a score of 9.95.
Kapurch graduated with a 3.97 GPA in cellular biology. A Foundation Fellow and the winner of the Joel Eaves and Alex Patterson Scholar-Athlete Awards, Kapurch ended his career with personal bests of 22.99 in the 50 freestyle, 49.09 in the 100 freestyle, 1:01.83 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:24.98 in the 200 breaststroke.
