ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's Tasha Humphrey was the No. 11 overall pick by the Detroit Shock in the first round of Wednesday's WNBA Draft, becoming the Lady Bulldogs' eighth first-round selection in the last eight years.

"Not everybody gets to live out their dream and play professionally," Humphrey said. "I feel fortunate and I feel blessed. I'm going to work hard to take advantage of this opportunity and take my game to the next level."

Humphrey, one of three consensus four-time first-team All-SEC performers in league history, finished her career ranked No. 2 and No. 4 on Georgia's career scoring leaders ledgers, respectively.

Georgia has now produced eight first-round picks all time. In addition, Lady (Hardmon) Grooms was one of 16 "premier players" assigned to teams with its inception. Tennessee has produced the most first rounders with 10, followed by Connecticut with nine; Georgia and North Carolina with eight; LSU and Stanford with six; Duke with five; and Baylor, Oklahoma, Purdue, Rutgers and UCLA all with four.

"I'm happy for Tasha, and I'm sure she will be a great addition to our former players already in the WNBA," head coach Andy Landers said. "I'm confident Tasha has a very, very promising future as a professional in the WNBA and overseas."

Humphrey was one of four SEC players drafted in the first round. The SEC far and away has produced more WNBA first-round draft picks than any other league in the nation. All told, 36 SEC standouts have been take in the first round since the league's inaugural season in 1997, followed by the ACC with 21, the Big 12 with 19, the Big East with 15, the Pac 10 with 13 and the Big Ten with 11. A nation-leading 10 different SEC schools have produced first-round picks.
