Welcome to the wonderful University of Georgia campus in Athens, Georgia. We hope you enjoy your experience here and to make that possible, Coach Suzanne Yoculan offers her list of dining, shopping, and exploring experiences in and around Athens and UGA.

Dining

Breakfast:
Athens offers a wide selection of breakfast dining experiences, all of which are found close to the UGA campus. Most notable is the newly opened Trax. Locally owned and operated, Trax, offers premium coffees, healthy breakfast and lunch menus, as well as an afternoon wine caf. Located at 675 Pulaski Street, next to the railroad tracks, there is plenty of parking and features patio dining.

Lunch:
Within walking distance of Stegeman Coliseum is WOW! (World of Wings). Featuring a sports bar atmosphere and a huge selection of wings, salads, and wraps, WOW is located in the heart of Five Points.

Former Gymdogs, Julie Ballard (Clark) and Caroline Harris (Ward) are co-owners of WOW along with their husbands, assistant Coach Jay Clark and team physician Dr. Kelly Ward.

Dinner:
One of Suzanne's absolute favorites for dinner is The Last Resort Bar and Grill located in downtown Athens on Clayton Street. With a full service bar, excellent wine list, and outstanding cuisine, The Last Resort is popular with Athens' locals and visitors alike. Reservations are not available, so get there early or be prepared to wait. Some of Suzanne's other favorite eateries include Harry Bissetts New Orleans Caf & Oyster Bar, (706-353-7065) and East West Bistro (706-546-9378). Both of these downtown restaurants do take reservations but call early as they fill up fast, also.


Shopping

Downtown Athens is a premier location for shopping located within easy walking distance of the UGA campus. Offering a small town atmosphere with shops of every description, Athens is just what the visitor wants when shopping for the unique. One of Suzanne's favorite shops is the popular and well known Masada Leather and Outdoor. Featuring Suzanne's favorite Ugg

Broad Street, Downtown Athens

boots, North Face and Patagonia outerwear, as well as a wide selection of Mountain Hardwear, Sperry, and comfort footwear, Masada Leather, is a favorite of the men in Suzanne's life as well! For a more feminine approach, try Opulence. Locally owned and operated by former UGA gymnast, Karin Lichey Ursry, Opulence features all of the hot new jean styles and downtown night-life wear. Fortson's is another favorite. Located across Clayton Street from Opulence, Fortson's is the perfect store for college girls looking for lots of inexpensive tops and dresses.

Anyone who has visited Suzanne's beautiful home knows she has a wonderful style and talent for decorating. Suzanne's favorite shop for the home is Heery's. Too! Also located in downtown Athens on Clayton Street, Heery's, Too! features beautiful home accents.

Can't find a parking space downtown? Try one of the parking decks for ample parking and convenience. Located on both ends of town, the decks are also an inexpensive way to secure your vehicle while you spend the day strolling and shopping.

Five Points is located within walking distance of Stegman Coliseum as well. When Suzanne gets ready to step out of her flops, Uggs, or Nikes, she heads to Slippers in Five Points. Featuring all kinds slinky stilletos that have become the UGA Gymdog Coach's trademark, Slippers is THE place to go.

Outside the Athens Area

Located within easy driving distance of Athens are several areas of local interest. Atlanta, of course, for shopping, dining, the Georgia Aquarium, Atlanta High Museum of Art, and Centennial Olympic Park. The Coca Cola Museum is a big favorite of visitors as well.

Madison is a small antebellum town located just south of Athens and is popular with history afficionados. The beautiful homes, local art museum, and antique shopping make Madison a popular place to visit.

If you are interested in traveling a little farther away, the North Georgia Mountains offer some of the most beautiful scenery and hiking in the southeast. Most notable of the scenic areas include Highlands, Cashiers, in North Carolina and Helen, Georgia.
