Inside The SEC Championships: Georgina Nembhard

March 02, 2008 | Track & Field

ATHENS, Ga. --- This is the second journal entry from Georgia track and field freshman Georgina Nembhard. After competing in the 60-meter dash and the 200 on Saturday, Nembhard is scheduled to compete with three of her teammates in the 4x400 relay on Sunday.

“March 1st 2008 - What a day! Have you ever felt as if you won a million dollars and someone snatches it away from you? Well, that’s pretty much what happened to me today.

At our meeting last night, Coach (Wayne) Norton made it clear that we are here to do one of three things, if not all of them. 1) Win your events, 2) score in your events and 3) perform you best. Unfortunately No. 1 and 2 was not up my alley this time around. However, I am happy to say that I did my best in both my events today.

The 60-meter dash was a very good race. I finished in 7.59 after coming in with a personal best of 7.66. The 200 however is another story. As far as I can remember, I always have trouble managing the turns on a banked track and sure enough it got the best of me today. I felt very comfortable and in control for most of the race until about the last 50 meters, which is down-hill and I lost control of myself. The good news is I stayed on my feet and I ran the exact time from three weeks ago (24.58), so matching my best time was not too bad. The bad thing is that what I thought was going to be the perfect race fell apart in one quick second. It is three hours later and I am still trying to figure out what happened. I cannot ask myself for anything more than my best so overall I think my performance was fairly decent.

We had a lot of people do great today in various events, making it on to the finals. The final day of competition will determine the SEC champion in each event and the winning school. Half our group will be heading back to Athens tomorrow and the other half on Monday.

GO DAWGS!”
