Inside The SEC Indoor Championships: Georgina Nembhard
March 01, 2008 | Track & Field
Georgia freshman Georgina Nembhard, a native of Saint Catherine, Jamaica, leads the Lady Bulldogs in the 200-meter dash (24.58) during her first
season in Athens. Nembhard is scheduled to compete in the 60, 200 as well as the 4x400 relay over the weekend.
Over the next three days, Nembhard is going to give georgiadogs.com her take on her first SEC Indoor Championships.
“Today is Friday, February 29, the night before my first Southeastern Conference Championship meet.
It has been a very long and tiring day. We departed from Atlanta about 11 a.m. Eastern Time and our flight was a little over an hour. Upon arrival in Fayetteville, Ark., we rushed around trying to meet the needs of all 47 athletes, which included taking a trip to get lunch (everyone had a different taste). We also had to go to Wal-Mart for those who needed groceries. At each of our destinations, we had a time limit. It almost became routine that we would pull up to the store, find out the time, run
in and out and pile back into any of the four vans, forgetting where you were sitting and who you were with.
I was one of the lucky ones who got their room key on time and didn’t have to rush. After settling into our rooms around 5 p.m., the team went to the
track to do some last-minute preparation for our respective events. At the time we arrived, the heptathletes had been well on their way in competition.
We left the track around 6:30 p.m. and went straight to dinner. That trip seemed like the longest dinner break ever. We had people in Olive Garden, Friday’s and Logan’s. I ended up at Red Robin. After eating and making our way back to the hotel, we got cleaned up and had to meet in the lobby for a team meeting to discuss the next couple days of competition.”
