Former Bulldog Standout Jerry Waller Passes Away

February 08, 2008 | Men's Basketball

ATHENS, Ga. --- Jerry Waller, one of the outstanding basketball players at Georgia during the 1960s, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday in his hometown of Tucker at the age of 65.

A native of Thomaston, Ga., Waller attended Robert E. Lee High School, as well as Gordon Military College, before coming to Georgia in 1963. He won All-Southeastern Conference honors in each of the three seasons (1964-66) he played for the Bulldogs. His career scoring total of 1,170 points currently ranks 25th among all-time Georgia players, and his rebounding total of 867 ranks fourth.

Waller remained close to the Georgia basketball program as a season-ticket holder, a regular attendee at home games, and an active member of the Bulldog basketball letterman’s group.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Angela Waller, his son Scott, daughter Hilarie, grandchildren Matthew and Jordyn, and a niece, Terye Ritchey.

Funeral arrangements are set for Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Campus Church of Christ, 1525 Indian Trail Road, Norcross, Ga. The family will receive friends one hour before and immediately after the 3:00 p.m. memorial service.
