Dogs Play Host to Vanderbilt
Georgia and Vanderbilt play the first of two regular-season matchups Wednesday night at Stegeman Coliseum. The Bulldogs arrive at this game with an 11-8 overall record, 2-4 in SEC play, after dropping their most recent game, a 63-58 decision to Kentucky at home on Saturday. It was Georgia’s first loss at Stegeman of the season, ending the longest home win streak of the Dennis Felton era at 11 games.
These two programs split their series in the 2007 season, as they’ve done for the past six years. Georgia took an 85-73 decision in their first meeting, played Jan. 13 in Athens. Vanderbilt won the return matchup, a much lower-scoring affair, three weeks later in Nashville by a 66-61 count.
Vanderbilt represents just the second nationally-ranked opponent for the Bulldogs this season. Georgia lost at then-3rd-rated Tennessee in its first opportunity against a Top 25 team.
Georgia tonight will be seeking to avoid its first 4-game losing streak in over a year. The Bulldogs of 07 dropped four straight in a December/January stretch that featured three consecutive games against Top 25 teams, including a pair of Top Five foes (Wisconsin, Florida).
Georgia’s straight-through, 10-game streak against the Eastern Division continues this Saturday at Florida. Tonight’s combatants meet for the return match-up 17 days from now in Nashville.
