Bulldogs To Open SEC Play With Pair Of Road Matches

ATHENS, Ga. ---The second-ranked Georgia womens tennis team opens SEC play this weekend with a pair of road matches at Mississippi State on Friday and at Ole Miss on Sunday. The Bulldogs have won 11 straight SEC openers.
"We start the SEC dual match season this weekend, which is always exciting," Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace said. "Mississippi State is 5-1 overall and all six of their dual matches have been at home, so they are used to playing at home. Then we head over to Oxford where Ole Miss has had success. It is important for us to realize that these are going to be two tough matches."
Georgia (7-1) will face Mississippi State (5-1) in Starkville Friday at 3 p.m. Georgia is coming off a win over then-No. 1 Georgia Tech last Saturday in Atlanta. The Bulldogs rallied from a 3-0 deficit to knock off the defending national champions. Georgia is 29-0 all-time against Mississippi State.
Mississippi State is 1-1 this season against ranked opponents, having defeated No. 74 Rice, 4-3. In the Georgia Invitational last month, Mississippi State and Georgia players squared off in nine matches with Georgia winning all nine.
The Bulldogs will journey to Oxford on Sunday for a 1 p.m. ET contest against the Rebels (4-4). Ole Miss is 0-3 against ranked opponents this season. Georgia leads the all-time series, 27-7.
Georgia has two players ranked in singles and a pair of doubles teams ranked. Senior Kelley Hyndman is ranked No. 32 and reigning SEC Player of the Week Monika Dancevic in ranked No. 51. In doubles, the team of Yvette Hyndman and Naoko Ueshima is ranked 21st and the team of Kelley Hyndman and Dancevic is ranked No. 22.
