November 17, 2008 | Men's Golf

ATHENS, Ga. --- Augusta native Brian Carter has signed a national letter of intent with the Georgia men’s golf team, according to an announcement Monday by Bulldogs coach Chris Haack.

“Brian is an excellent prospect with solid golf skills,” Haack said. “We feel like he will be able to come in and compete right away for playing time. He will be a great addition to our program both academically and athletically.”

Carter has led Lakeside-Evans High School to back-to-back state championships in 2006 and 2007 and he was the 2007 state medalist. He has been named to the All-State Team and has been chosen as his high school squad’s Most Valuable Player the last three seasons.

Carter has recorded five victories on the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour, including a win in the prestigious Tournament of Champions in 2007.

Carter competed in the United States Junior Amateur in 2007 and 2008. He also participated in the Georgia State Amateur and was invited to the Canadian Junior Amateur International. Carter was a 2006 qualifying medalist for the Georgia State Amateur.
