Bulldogs Put On Full Pads For Monday's Practice

October 06, 2008 | Football

ATHENS, Ga. The 10th-ranked Georgia football team returned to the practice fields on Monday in preparation for Saturday’s game against Tennessee.

The Bulldogs were idle over the weekend and had not practiced since last Thursday. Since Georgia’s players had the break, the coaching staff decided to make Monday’s practice a full-pads session lasting more than two hours. Monday practices typically last about half as long and the players wear shorts.

“It’s important that we get our minds right and that we get our work in,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “We cannot go through the motions this week. We need to practice with enthusiasm and intensity, because it’s going to take that kind of effort in the game on Saturday.”

The Bulldogs are 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the SEC. Tennessee is off to a 2-3 start, including an 0-2 mark in the conference.

“We’ve got tremendous respect for Tennessee,” Georgia fullback Shaun Chapas said. “The past two years, they’ve really taken it to us. It’s going to be another tough SEC game, and we’ve got to work hard this week to get ready to play.”

The Georgia-Tennessee game on Oct. 11 will be televised nationally on CBS, with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m. All Georgia games also are broadcast live on the Bulldog Radio Network on AM 750 WSB in Atlanta and on both 106.1 FM and 960 The Ref in Athens. The radio audio also can be heard worldwide on both georgiadogs.com, the official website of UGA Athletics, and on XM satellite radio.
