Hunt Advances To Semifinals Of Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA --- Georgia junior Jamie Hunt advanced to the semifinals of the Georgia Tech Invitational with a pair of wins Saturday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
Hunt notched a 6-4, 6-4 win over Southern Miss’ Patricio Alvarado in the round of 16, then downed Ryan Gormley of Penn State, 6-4, 6-1 to advance. In other singles action, Javier Garrapiz won the first set against Georgia Tech’s Miguel Muguruza but was forced to retire with an injury; Josh Varela fell to Furman’s Daniel Knause, 7-6(5), 6-1; Drake Bernstein fell to Georgia State’s Necj Podkrajsck, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3; and Furman’s Philip Fielkell topped Alex Hill, 6-2, 6-4 in Flight B.
Christian Vitulli defeated Georgia Tech’s Dusan Miljevic, 0-6, 7-6(5), 6-1 before falling to Auburn’s Lukas Marsoun in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-4.
As a result of Garrapiz’s injury, Auburn’s Lukas Marsoun and Alexander Stamchev advanced to the final round of the doubles draw.
“We showed a lot of resiliency in coming back and winning some matches today,” associate head coach Will Glenn said. “I’m proud of the way Jamie played, and hopefully he can keep it going tomorrow”
Hunt will face Muguruza in the semifinals Sunday at 8:00 a.m. as the three-day tournament concludes
