Four of Top Eight Seeds Advance To Doubles Semifinals

ATHENS-----Four of the top eight seeded doubles teams won three matches in the “A” draw to advance to the semifinals of the ITA South Regional Women’s Tennis Championships Friday at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility.
Due to rain, all singles matches scheduled to be played Friday were postponed to Saturday, and three rounds of doubles matches were played indoors.
Florida’s third-seeded team of Megan Alexander and Marrit Boonstra, Georgia Tech’s fourth-seeded team of Christy Striplin and Noelle Hickey both advanced to the Sunday’s semifinals along with Miami’s Bianca Eichkorn and Michaela Kissell and Ole Miss’ Kristi Box and Karen Nijssen, both seeded 5-8, also advanced.
The top two seeded teams were both eliminated in the quarterfinals. Georgia’s No. 1 seeded tandem of Chelsey Gullickson and Yvette Hyndman fell to Eichkorn and Kissell, 8-4 while Auburn’s Alex Haney and Melissa Koning fell to Box and Nijssen, 8-3.
Georgia’s Monika Dancevic and Cameron Ellis topped Auburn’s Dunja Djuranovic and Daniela Vukadinovic, 8-1, then dropped an 8-3 decision to Florida’s Alexander and Boonstra. Gullickson and Hyndman defeated Ali Beavers and Kristi Kegerreis of Georgia Southern, 8-0, in the round of 32, and downed Florida State’s Federica Suess and Lauren Macfarlane, 8-2, in the round of 16.
Singles play is scheduled to begin Saturday at 9 a.m.
